Delivering Dignity in Delaware
On Thursday, October 24, 2024, SixDegrees.org activated its Building Kits initiative in Newark, Del. The organization delivered 5,000 basic hygiene kits to Phoenix Family Resource Center and volunteered alongside community members to organize inventory and support neighbors in need. The hygiene kits delivered to Phoenix Family Resources contained a total of 45,000 items of care valued at $50,650.
Story Can Change the World: Partnering with Washington West Film Festival
On Sunday, October 13, 2024, SixDegrees.org activated its Building Kits initiative in partnership with the Washington West Film Festival. The festival hosted an anniversary screening of “Footloose” and empowered SixDegrees to create and distribute resource kits for young people impacted by foster care across the state of Virginia. Virginia’s Kids Belong was the sole recipient of kits through this activation, receiving 1,500 kits containing 19,696 items of care valued at $22,571.
BKxKB Brings Baltimore Together
On Friday, October 11, 2024, SixDegrees.org activated its Building Kits project in support of four organizations across Baltimore to distribute essential hygiene items to individuals experiencing homelessness and periods of unstable housing. Volunteers gathered to help load a series of trucks to distribute goods to Health Care for the Homeless, ShareBaby, Helping Up Mission, and Catholic Charities of Baltimore. The organizations shared that their allocations of these resources, 1,250 kits each, will be distributed within six weeks to their respective clients.
Shipping up to Boston in Support of First Responders
On Thursday, August 22, 2024, SixDegrees.org cultivated a powerful activation of its Building Kits initiative. In just three weeks time, they organized volunteers, procured over $250,000 worth of resources, and organized a meaningful volunteer activation for the build of 3,000 mental health resource kits for distribution to all attendees at the following week’s International Association of Fire Fighters convention and 150 for patients enrolled with the On-Site Academy , a short term, intensive residential treatment center for rescue personnel who may be temporarily overwhelmed by the stress of their job, suffering from work-related cumulative or delayed critical incident stress.
Big Impact in Big Sky
On Tuesday, July 2, 2024, SixDegrees.org facilitated a kit building event in Big Sky, Mont. Through our BKxKB project, Spanish Peaks members and residents joined us in their clubhouse to create 1,000 essential resource kits full of items for winter and summer for the full time residents that are largely living with government subsidies. The kits, containing a total of 67,568 items of care valued at $37,954, were distributed to Big Sky Community Food Bank.
BKxKB Goes to Hollywood
On Wednesday, June 12, 2024, SixDegrees.org took part in Paramount’s Community Day. Through our BKxKB project, Paramount employees joined us to create 1,250 essential resource kits full of items of need and comfort. The kits were distributed to Fernando Pullum Community Arts Center, a local community arts program in Los Angeles that serves under-resourced youth in out-of-school time through inspiring arts instruction.
Paying it Forward with Bell Bank
On Thursday, April 25, 2024, SixDegrees.org, in partnership with Bell Bank, activated its Building Kits program to create and distribute 1,000 essential resource kits for nonprofits in the Fargo, ND region. This partnership was part of Bell Bank’s Pay It Forward initiative that celebrates employee engagement and provides vital financial support to nonprofits across the country.
#BaconToPayson
On April 20, 2024, Kevin Bacon, SixDegrees.org, Payson High School, and the greater Payson community banded together to assemble and distribute 5,000 essential resource kits to young people in need of resources throughout Utah, Colorado, and Nevada. They also teamed up with the Utah Film Commission in celebration of 100 years of film and television in Utah. This is part of SixDegrees.org’s initiative launched on Giving Tuesday to distribute 40,000 kits through their Building Kits by Kevin Bacon (BKxKB) program to commemorate the 40th Anniversary of “Footloose.”
BKxKB meets SXSW
On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, SixDegrees.org created a powerful BKxKB activation in tandem with Artists for Actions’s summit at SXSW. Students from Just Keep Livin’ Foundation joined concert goers to create 2,000 essential resource kits for distribution to K-5th grade students at Title I schools in Austin, Texas.
