Ruth’s Room
Creating Spaces for Connection and Compassion
Honoring Ruth Bacon’s Legacy Through Purpose-Driven Spaces for Change
What is Ruth’s Room?
Ruth’s Room is an initiative by SixDegrees.org that transforms underutilized spaces into hubs of connection, dignity, and healing. Named in honor of Ruth Bacon, mother of our founder and a passionate educator and justice advocate, these spaces serve as a tribute to her legacy of fostering community and opportunity. In 1985, Ruth Bacon started a program at Grateford Prison for incarcerated fathers to meaningfully connect with their children, helping to maintain a bond during a time typically exposing children to trauma and estrangement.
Our First Room
The first Ruth’s Room is a dedicated music space for youth in Philadelphia. This space provides a safe and inspiring environment for teens to create, collaborate, and connect through the transformative power of music. Equipped with a recording booth, production tools, and a performance stage, this project is a testament to Ruth’s vision of compassion and opportunity. This project was built in support of the services of Rock to the Future, a network partner of SixDegrees.org that does transformational work to address gun violence in Philadelphia through after-school music programs across the city.
