BKxKB meets SXSW
On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, SixDegrees.org created a powerful BKxKB activation in tandem with Artists for Actions’s summit at SXSW. Students from Just Keep Livin’ Foundation joined concert goers to create 2,000 essential resource kits for distribution to K-5th grade students at Title I schools in Austin, Texas.
The resource kits built at this activation included 22,000 items of care and were distributed to the Andy Roddick Foundation.
“Collaborations are special, powerful and magical,” said Jaime Garcia, president and CEO of the Andy Roddick Foundation. “As educators, it's imperative to instill in children the significance of holistic self-care, transcending beyond academic focuses. These kits catered to comprehensive child development, offering not only reading materials but also essentials for personal well-being such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, high-quality athletic socks and jump ropes. Adding a heartfelt touch, thoughtful encouragement cards crafted by high schoolers from the Just Keep Livin' Foundation were included for our elementary school students supported by the Andy Roddick Foundation. When messages like "Be you and never change" and "You are magical and enough" resonate among our youth, the impact extends far beyond what we anticipate,” Garcia said. “We extend our gratitude to SixDegrees.org for orchestrating this meaningful day, fostering community engagement, and illuminating the invaluable work carried out by nonprofits in Austin, TX. "
Volunteers contributed 120 hours, and SixDegrees.org engaged six brand partners and raised $73,000 in in-kind goods and services to make this activation possible.
